KOZHIKODE: In a major drug bust, police arrested three youths and seized 492g of synthetic drug MDMA during a vehicle check near Muthanga border checkpost in Wayanad on Tuesday night.

Police identified the arrested as Jasim Ali (26) of Naduvilpeedikayil House, Sultan Bathery, Muhammed Midhilaj (28) of Pulkuzhiyil house, Vavad near Koduvally and Afthash of Puthiya Veettil house at Sultan Bathery.

A team from Bathery police checked a Volkswagen Polo car thoroughly after police got suspicious seeing the behaviour of the trio and found the contraband kept in a yellow cover behind the music system of the vehicle. The vehicle was seized and they were taken to the police station for interrogation.

District police chief R Anand said on questioning, they confessed that MDMA was purchased from Bengaluru and it was taken to Bathery for resale among college students in Bathery and Pulpally area.

"This is the largest quantity of contraband (MDMA) detected in Wayanad district. The arrested have been booked under NDPS Act," he said.

The seizure was made by a police team led by Sultan Bathery SHO MA Santhosh along with SI Roychan PD, among others. Police are investigating whether the youth had sneaked in such contraband earlier as well.
