MALAPPURAM: In a major ganja haul, special inspection team of excise department seized 24 kilogram ganja and arrested one person in this connection, on Thursday.
The arrested was Musthafa, 60, native of Thuvvur in the district. According to the excise officials Musthafa was a major distributor of Ganja in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Palakkad districts and he collects the substance from Madhurai in Tamilnadu.

He was taken into custody while traveling on a motor bike carrying 4 bundles of Ganja at Payyanadu. Musthafa is also accused in three cases related to seizure of Ganja. “During interrogation, the accused has admitted that he distributes at least 50 kilogram ganja in Malappuram and neighbouring districts in a month. He has established a direct connection with the ganja rackets in Madhurai and he purchases the substance after transferring an amount to the bank accounts of the gang members in Tamilnadu”, said the deputy commissioner.
The accused would be produced in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court in Vatakara on Friday. Deputy commissioner has also informed that the excise officials will conduct a detailed inquiry on the retail Ganja distributors who purchased substance from Musthafa and the investigation team will also conduct detailed inquiry on the source of the substance in Madhurai.
