Kolkata youths thrash taxi driver, flee with car

abandoned in Bhangor’s Krishnamati led to a shocking discovery on Saturday. Locals who investigated found the seats and the steering wheel stained with

blood

. The car had been found in some bushes in the early hours of the day.

The driver, Bablu Singh, was reportedly beaten up by four passengers and dropped off at New Town, after which the group fled with the car.

Locals alerted Kashipur police when they found the car. Cops dialled an oft-called number on the phone and the woman who answered said her husband Bablu Singh owned the cab.

An officer said, “We learnt that four youths hired the cab on Friday evening. The driver was beaten up and left at New Town, and the youths drove off in the car. An injured Singh lodged a complaint at New Town police station and returned home to Sovabazaar. The car developed problems at Bhangor, where the group abandoned it.”
