RANAGHAT: The bruised and bloody body of a youth was found by the railway tracks between Pairadanga and Ranaghat stations in Nadia on Wednesday morning. Family members of Anuj Ghosh (28) have claimed that he was pushed out of the train and have lodged a murder complaint. But police have refused to comment till they get the post-mortem report.
According to family members, Anuj, a resident of Ariadaha in North 24-Parganas, was killed by a group of four astrologers he had been hobnobbing with.
Anuj himself harboured hopes of becoming an astrologer. All four have gone missing.
For the first few hours after the body was discovered, GRP could not identify him. Then an unclaimed bag and mobile were found at Behrampore in Murshidabad. From the phone, railway officers found the number of Anuj's residence. After speaking to Anuj's brother Aritra, the officials realized that the unidentified body was that of Anuj.
After identifying the body, Aritra and other family members lodged a complaint with Ranaghat GRP, alleging that Anuj had been murdered. In the complaint, they have named an astrologer from Kolkata, his brother-in-law and two of their assistants for the murder.
Anuj had reportedly made friends with them as he was interested in learning astrology. He had left home saying that he was going to Farakka with the group. Krishnendu Ghosh, a neighbour of the Ghosh family, said, "The five of them took Gour Express from Sealdah on Tuesday night. When the train reached Naihati station, four of them, including Anuj, got off to fetch water. But though the others managed to board the train, Anuj missed it. After this, he called up his brother Avijit. Avijit told him to come back home, but he insisted on taking the next train. Even if he did, he should have travelled on the Bandel route. Why was his body found near Ranaghat?"
The farmers who saw the body said blood was oozing out of the nose and right leg. By the time Anuj's family reached Ranaghat, a post-mortem had been conducted. Family members created a ruckus at this, after which Sealdah SRP Sankar Singh reportedly assured them of a second post-mortem. Police have inspected the spot where the body was found.
