Youth found hanging, kin cry murder by wife

Kolkata: A private firm employee, Sumit Mukherjee (30), was found hanging at his home in Halisahar on Thursday. His family claimed Sumit's wife, Sneha, and her alleged lover had killed him and then, hanged him from the ceiling to pass it off as a suicide. Sneha has been missing.Sumit and Sneha got married about two-and-a-half years ago but their relationship reportedly soured after her alleged affair, which led to frequent fights. The family said when such a fight on Wednesday evening prompted Sneha's parents to visit them. They alleged Sumit was assaulted by Sneha, her lover as well as her parents. Though a temporary compromise was reached after visiting the local police station, tragedy struck later at night, the family said. They took Sumit to Kalyani JNM Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Sumit's mother, Madhabi, lodged a complaint at Bijpur PS, accusing Sneha, her parents and lover of murder. "My son was mentally tortured. Sneha's parents were unhappy with his modest income and were forcing her to marry someone else. On the fateful day, they beat him up but he still pleaded for reconciliation. I believe they killed him and staged it as a suicide," she alleged.A Barrackpore Police Commissionerate officer said, "We have registered a case of unnatural death.
