NEW DELHI: A woman's half-naked body was found inside a bush in the New Town area near Kolkata on Friday, police reported.
Residents of the Lohar Pul locality noticed the body in the morning and alerted the authorities. The identity of the deceased is still unknown.
A senior officer from Bidhannagar City Police stated that it appears the body was dumped by those responsible for her death.
"The post-mortem examination will confirm the cause of her death. That will also confirm whether she was raped before being killed," the officer said.
An investigation has been launched by the police.
