With scales flipped in Bengal, uphill task for TMC’s Jahangir Khan in Falta
Falta: With the political scales flipping in Bengal and chief minister Suvendu Adhikari targeting him in his own lair, Trinamool Congress's Falta candidate Jahangir Khan faces an uphill task ahead of the May 21 repolls. Khan, who had stepped out of the public glare after the May 4 results, returned to his ransacked Srirampore party office on Friday.
The Election Commission had ordered fresh polling across all 285 booths in the constituency following complaints of voter intimidation and EVM tampering.
While the TMC has consistently held over 50% of the vote share here for the past 15 years, Khan did not respond to calls for comment. A party functionary said former IPS officer Humayun Kabir is currently coordinating the local campaign to bolster worker morale.
Meanwhile, a TMC fact-finding team led by MP Sushmita Dev met workers across the Sunderbans. Dev alleged on X that central forces and police aided the BJP in vandalising TMC party offices. Two other TMC teams are visiting East Midnapore and Hooghly. On X, party MP Sagarika Ghose claimed that local administrative offices were illegally occupied by the BJP post-polls and alleged discrepancies in EVM battery charges on counting day.
