KOLKATA: The arrest of
Tapas Paul has evoked various reactions in the film industry. One of the
Tollywood actors
to have spoken out is
Rudranil Ghosh.
According to Ghosh, central agencies like CBI and ED are well within their rights to conduct their investigation in any manner. “They can speak to a person over the phone or arrest him/her and then interrogate. It’s their prerogative. But it is the Supreme Court that has the sole right to judge whether a person is guilty or not. Being a senior and respected actor of this industry, it is sad that Tapas-da’s name has got embroiled in such a case. I want him to come out clean and return to movies again,” Ghosh said.
However, he also found it uncanny that Paul has been singled out this way. He pointed that there are thousand employees of
Rose Valley Films
who have earned good salaries. “The President of India has given National Awards to movies produced by Rose Valley. ‘Shobdo’ and ‘Moner Manush’ are cases in point. Some people have entered into contracts to work in films produced by Rose Valley. Others have been salaried staff of the company’s films’ division,” he pointed out. Ghosh also took potshots at BJP leaders and their association with Rose Valley Films. “Union minister Babul Supriyo and BJP leader Locket Chatterjee acted in ‘Chander Bari’ which was produced by Rose Valley. They also received cheques from Rose Valley Films for acting in this movie. Why is Paul being singled out?” he asked.
