West Bengal to showcase Baluchari sarees

In an effort to showcase the traditional business of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee created ‘Biswa Bangla’, the West Bengal handicrafts development corporation has decided to increase the popularity of the traditional Baluchari sarees worldwide through these ‘Biswa Bangla’ stalls.

KOLKATA: In an effort to showcase the traditional business of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee created ‘Biswa Bangla’, the West Bengal handicrafts development corporation has decided to increase the popularity of the traditional Baluchari sarees worldwide through these ‘Biswa Bangla’ stalls.
West Bengal Handicrafts Development Corporation will shortly launch its first genre-specific online store store www.balucharisaree.in and an app exclusively for Baluchari sarees.

Buyers will not only be able to buy Baluchari sarees directly from there but also give designs which the designers will customsie for them. Besides Baluchari sarees, bags, jackets and ties will also be available.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has been keen on reviving Bengal’s traditional culture and promotion of Baluchari and Muslin is just a part of it. The weavers have been trained and cooperatives have been formed to look after them. The state government will encourage budding designers to direct the traditional weavers so that they can make their products according to the demand of the age.
