Visva Bharati had been hosting the spring festival since the time of Rabindranath Tagore and in the past two years, it was stalled due to the pandemic and this time due to legal battle between the university authority and the students.

However, this did not deter the students who hosted Vasant Utsav in Shantiniketan outside the Visva Bharati campus.

Bidyut Chakraborty, vice-chancellor of the varsity along with the executive committee members had decided not to host the spring festival due to the prevailing situation.

The Burdwan University's law department and Burdwan University's Law Alumni Association (BULAA) hosted the spring festival where the students of Shemford Futuristic School, Burdwan performed. Even some students of the law department and some alumni association members also performed in the show.

Subrata Mondal, general secretary of BULAA said that as the law department was celebrating its golden jubilee years, as part of it the Vasant Utsav was planned for the first time and it was a major success.

"The students of Shemford performed excellently as they danced from one end of the lush green campus to the other," Mondal said and hoped they could host similar spring festivals in the coming years on the campus.

The festival is a major attraction for tourists at Shantiniketan.
