KOLKATA: A man, who was returning home on a bike from an Alipore court after testifying in a criminal case, was allegedly shot at by some bike-borne gunmen on Budge Budge Trunk Road in South 24 Parganas on Thursday afternoon.
Cops arrested Afridi alias Saifuddin from Kultali in South 24 Parganas in connection with the shooting.
The victim, Sheikh Altabuddin (42), suffered bullet injuries on his face and was rushed to a hospital before being referred to SSKM. Altabuddin claimed that he had been shot by his rival, Shobhraj Gaji.
"The attack may be the fallout of an old rivalry. In 2015, Altabuddin had been shot and he had sustained ear injury," said an officer.
