Weekend may get moderate rain spell

Kolkata: The city was cloudy but mostly dry on Friday. The weekend, however, is likely to get another spell of moderate downpour along with winds gusting up to 50 kmph-60 kmph before the rain fizzles out into lighter and less frequent showers by mid-week. Despite an absence of rain for most of Friday, except for a light spell in the evening, the maximum temperature fell two notches to 30.4°C and the minimum slid over four notches to 21.9°C. This was due largely to the 61.1 mm of rainfall and wind on Thursday. “We can expect another moderate shower between Saturday and Sunday. As the frequency and intensity of rainfall reduces, the maximum temperature may rise,” said RMC head of weather department H R Biswas. Southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal over the region have made conditions favourable for rain-inducing systems. The moisture incursions from the Bay has increased the likelihood of a weekend thunder squall. On Saturday, the city may stay cloudy with a thundershower towards the evening. The maximum and minimum are likely to be around 32°C and 24°C, respectively.
