KOLKATA: The Centre apprehends an escalation in Maoist violence in the state before the elections. The Union home ministry's internal security secretary, B K De, came down to the city to chalk out with state officials the modalities to combat Maoists more effectively.

They tried to find out why there was not enough success against Maoists. The Centre fears that Maoists will try to disrupt elections in the state with largescale violence.
