KOLKATA: Four undertrials escaped from Diamond Harbour sub-jail on Sunday evening, giving jail guards the slip. Police on Monday managed to nab one of them near Garia. A hunt is on for the other three.
The quartet — Abdul Manan and Subhas Biswas from Chittagong in Bangladesh and Motalep Sheikh from Bhangore and Azim Mistri from Baruipur — was last seen inside the jail around 9 pm.

All of them were in ward 5 of the jail.
Jail authorities said the group broke the toilet window and entered the female ward, from where they managed to reach the 21-foot-high jail wall. Then they got hold of a rope, managed to scale the wall and jump out.
Authorities found the four missing around 1 am. A search alert was issued. All police stations were informed and special raids were launched. Later, Motalep was nabbed by local residents from a bar near Chanakyapuri early on Monday and handed over to police.

Azim and Motalep have murder charges against them. Azim was arrested for shooting down a Class VI student of Ramakrishna Mission, Sarisha. Abdul and Subhas, who worked as helpers on a trawler in Kakdwip, were arrested for working for a gang of dacoits.
