KOLKATA: At least five civic workers were injured, three of them critically, after they sustained severe splinter injuries in an underground explosion during the repairing works of a water pipeline at BT Road in Belghoria on Friday afternoon.
Police, however, suspect the blast took place after a crude bomb hidden at least 7-8 feet below the ground exploded during the underground pipeline work.
All were rushed to Kamarhati Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital and three of them - Kuddus Ali (36), Rakesh Seikh (30) and Mofikul Seikh (32) - were later shifted to RG Kar hospital.
