Unconscious cop at Nizam Palace declared dead in hosp

Kolkata: A 51-year-old Kolkata Police (KP) personnel of 1st Battalion, Mir Azad Ali– who retired from the armed forces before joining KP and was referred to as Ex-RC officially—was declared dead at Kolkata Police Hospital after being found unconscious inside a common bathroom at Nizam Palace in south Kolkata around 8.15am on Thursday. Cops suspect he might have suffered a massive heart attack.
“No external injuries were found and preliminary opinion suggests it was a cardiac arrest,” said joint CP (crime) Syed Waquar Raza.
The development comes on the same day when another constable’s suicide from the same battalion a couple of days back came under police scrutiny, cops said. Lalbazar on Thursday set several do’s and don’ts for the personnel of the battalion on duty. “It has been decided to ensure that the process of issuance of arms and depositing the same be done as per SOP. CCTV cameras will be installed in all armouries. This will begin with the Reserve Force. We have been asked to monitor the physical and mental heath of all officials and not to give continuous night duty to those who are aged or suffer from chronic diseases,” said an officer.
