KOLKATA/PURULIA: A 48-year-old

councillor was shot in his head when he had stopped out to buy medicines for his pet dog in Agarpara on Sunday evening.

, a two-time councillor, died before he could be taken to hospital.


This incident came close on the heels of a 52-year-old four-time Jhalda councillor

Tapan Kandu

being shot by unidentified miscreants when he was out for his evening walk. Kandu died before he could be taken to a Ranchi hospital.

According to TMC sources, Dutta had bought the medicines and was returning home on foot when two motorcycle-borne miscreants intercepted him. Sources said there were four assailants who shot at Dutta from close range thrice. Two bullets hit Dutta in the head and shoulder. Dutta slumped due to the near fatal injuries.


Pannihati MLA Partha Bhowmik said, “We want the killers to be arrested, whoever they are. There are

and police is working on the case. I have also spoken to police and urged immediate action. We have our faith in the administration.”

Kandu isn’t only a four-time councillor but also the former chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Jhalda municipality. While Kandu won the ward 2, his wife Purnima won ward number 12.
