Two bikers killed, two hurt in crashes
KOLKATA: Two
Around 6pm, 18-year-old Surajit Maity riding a bike without helmet was killed when he rammed into a bus from behind as it stopped suddenly in the middle of the road to pick up a passenger. The incident occurred at Christopher Road in Tangra. Maity, a Radhamohan Pal Lane resident, was headed to a friend’s place in the same locality.
“The bus had apparently stopped suddenly and Maity could not apply brakes on time, ramming into the vehicle. He suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” said an officer of the Tangra police station.
Later, locals got hold of the bus driver — Sanjay Mondal (40) — and thrashed him before the cops came to his rescue and took him to a hospital. The mob also damaged the bus and tried to set it on fire.
Early on Sunday, 33-yearold Ratnadeep Das — who was returning home from work on his bike — was hit by a vehicle on Cossipore Flyover. Another biker passing through the flyover spotted him lying in a pool of blood on the road and informed cops at the next crossing. Police rushed to the spot and took Das — a resident of NK Chatterjee Lane in North 24 Parganas — to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A few hours before that, two cousins on a bike were hit by a private car on EM Bypass near Avishikta Crossing around 12.30am. Victims Rabi Das, 33 and Ashok Das, 30, were taken Ruby
