At PHE Colony, 10-15 robbers overpowered security guard Santosh Raj, snatched his cellphone and hit him on the head with the butt of a revolver. The robbers then hurled bombs and looted the house of PHE pump mechanic, Sital Dutta, who was in office at that time.
The robbers looted gold jewellery, cash and cellphones as his daughter and wife could hardly offer any resistance. They then proceeded to loot the house of Dutta's neighbour and another PHE pump mechanic, Prem Chanda Jha. They shot at Prem Chand Jha and his son Jayanta and hit his wife, Indira, on the forehead with an iron rod. The operation lasted around half an hour.
In the other incident, around 15 armed robbers tried to loot the house of Bidyut Mondal, a businessman of Jemari village. But the residents and locals resisted the robbers, who were forced to flee. However, while escaping, they fired six rounds from their pipe guns. One of the bullets hit Mondal's sister, Shatabdi Kole, on her leg.
Asansol ASP Prasun Banerjee said police have started a case. "So far, nobody has been arrested but investigations have begun," he added.
