Turnaround surprises idol-makers

Kolkata: The turnaround in business this festival season has taken even Kumartuli idol-makers by surprise. “We didn’t expect the scenario to change so quickly after the pandemic. With the festivals taking place without Covid curbs after two years, there was a lot of enthusiasm among the organisers,” said Bikash Pal, a Kumartuli idol-maker.
Kajal Sarkar, president of Forum for Durgotsab, said, “Durga Puja spurred commercial activities in several industries, connected with the festival, this year.Kumartuli, where most of the idols are made for puja, was bound to gain out of it.”
