Tollywood actors injured in car accident

Two television and film actors returning home from work were injured after the front tyre of the car they were riding burst and the vehicle overturned after hitting the median divider early on Thursday.

KOLKATA: Two television and film actors returning home from work were injured after the front tyre of the car they were riding in burst and the vehicle overturned after hitting the median divider early on Thursday.Actor Subhasis Mitra popularly known as Rana Mitra was driving the car while Payel Mukherjee, a young model and actress was sitting beside him when the accident took place on Deshapran Sashmal Road near Tollygunge rail bridge around 12.30am.Mitra has worked in movies like City of Joy (1992), Bombaiyer Bombete (2003) Monchora (2016) apart from a number of television serials.Last week, a Calcutta University professor was killed when the front tyre of his car had burst in similar fashion in Salt Lake. Mitra and Mukherjee however were lucky they had their seatbelts strapped and escaped with minor bruises and abrasions.They were rescued by local residents and other motorists who pulled them out of the car. Police reached the place shortly and took them to MR Bangur Hospital less than 200 metres from the spot where they were administered first aid and were let go. Doctors at the hospital said they had suffered cuts on foreheads, hands and sprain injuries at the shoulder and back of the heads.
Police said the car – a Maruti Suzuki A-Star LXI was owned by Mitra. “Some local residents have alleged Mitra was speeding and he had overshoot a traffic signal. We are checking the CCTV footage to find out if he had violated a traffic signal or the accident took place because of a mechanical failure,” said an officer of Charu Market police station.
