TMC youth leader shot at, thrashed over ‘biz feud’

Kolkata: A 45-year-old Youth Trinamool Congress leader, Aritra Ghosh alias Bumba, was shot at and then beaten up by around six armed men at Ariadaha near Dakshineswar 1.30pm on Thursday. One of the bullets grazed his right leg. No one has been arrested yet.Sources said the incident took place as Bumba came out of his Ariadaha home on his bike. They claimed a rivalry between two Trinamool factions over the control of the Dakshineswar-Ariadaha area led to the attack. But police suspect it was the fallout of a feud between the two groups over realty business.Former transport minister and Kamarhati’s Trinamool MLA Madan Mitra, said, “Both the victim and the attackers are known to me. All of them are Trinamool workers. But some local contractors deliberately engineered this rivalry. Police should have been more alert.”The victim has been admitted to a private hospital off EM Bypass. Doctors said he suffered several fractures on his hands and legs after the miscreants beat up him with iron rods and bamboo sticks.Bumba reportedly told police a local TMC leader masterminded the attack. “We have recorded the statements of the victim. A complaint was lodged against two persons including a local trader, who belong the same political party,” an officer said.“We have received the complaint,” a senior police officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate said.
