Santiniketan: A three-day poetry festival kicked off at the Lipika
auditorium in Santiniketan
from Friday. This year, the event is being dedicated to late Bengali author Sunil Gangopadhyay
. Organized by Visva Bharati Adhyapak Sabha and a Kolkata-based cultural organization Abritti Lok, the fest witnessed participation of poets from all over the country and Bangladesh.
Kishor Bhattacharya, president of Adhyapak Sabha, said, "Sahitya Akademi and the Union ministry of culture have supported this initiative."
Santiniketan and its creator Rabindranath Tagore haunted writer Sunil Ganguly throughout his poetic career. Sunil liked to stay at his Santiniketan house whenever he was in search of serenity. Almost every year Sunil used to visit Santiniketan during Basanta Utsav and used to take part in the unique festival of colors. This year the Poetry Festival of Santiniketan has been dedicated to this great admirer of Tagore and lover of Santiniketan. Sunil's presence is still felt in his house named ' 'Eka Ebang Kayekjan' at Fuldanga locality in Santiiketan .
The three days festival organized by Visva Bharati- Adhyapak Sabha and a Kolkata-based cultural organization 'Abritti Lok' began on Friday at Lipika auditorium in Santiniketan. Kishor Bhattachraya, the President of Adhyapak Sabha said, ' Sahitya Academy and Ministry of Culture have supported this initiative.' Poets from different states of India and from Bangladesh would take part in this three days festival. Wife of Sunil Ganguly, Swati Ganguly herself along with others was present in this occasion.
