Teen drowns in flooded pond
A 17-year-old girl died after drowning in a pond in Baishnabdanga village on Thursday night. "Fulson Khatun accidentally drowned as due to the floods, the pond and the road could not be distinguished," said Arup Dutta, BDO of Suti-I block.
While some parts of Hadua and Banshabati panchayats are still waterlogged, the overall situation has improved since Thursday, Dutta said.
Water from Dwarka and Brahmani rivers has receded from most villages in Nabagram and Khargram blocks.
SDO (Lalbag) Saikat Dutta said six boats were deployed in Panchgram, Rasulpur, Hajbibidanga, Kiritesweri and Shibpur panchayats. Relief was distributed in Nabagram on Friday. tnn
