KOLKATA: An 80-year-old man was seriously injured when an auto-rickshaw hit him and a 17-year-old boy was crushed under the wheels of a bus on Saturday.
According to the police, the first accident took place around 7.55am on MG Road in front of Surendranath College. "An auto driver hit a pedestrian, Zesun Ahmed (80), while the latter was trying to cross the road.

Ahmed is a resident of Patwar Bagan lane. He began to bleed profusely from the head and the nose and had to be rushed to Medical College Hospital. He was given multiple stitches and is serious but stable. The accused driver has been arrested for rash driving and the auto has been impounded," said a senior police officer.
In the second incident that took place around 8.20am, a 17-year-old boy was crushed to death under the wheels of a private bus. The victim was identified as Arshad Ali, a resident of Dilsukhia Street.
"Ali had boarded the private bus but chose to stand on the footboard. When the bus reached New Park Street, Ali suddenly lost his balance and fell off. He was crushed under the rear wheels of the bus. The bus driver drove away and has gone into hiding. Ali was rushed to National Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead," said a police source.
