Technician held for rape bid in hospital

KALYANI: A technician at an X-ray unit in Kalyani JNM Hospital in Nadia was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a student of Kalyani Medical College when she went for her X-ray on Thursday. The medical college has formed a committee to discuss the issue in a meeting on Saturday, said principal Abhijit Mukherjee.

When the third-year student went for an X-ray on Thursday night, the technician, Kalyan Jana, misbehaved with her and attempted to rape her. She lodged a complaint with the college authority. The principal said the complaint was forwarded to Kalyani police, who arrested Jana on Thursday night and produced him in Kalyani court on Friday. Jana is a resident of Murshidabad and has been staying in a rented house in Kalyani.
