KOLKATA: Veteran director Tarun Mazumdar was hospitalized on Friday after he complained of renal problems and other issues. The 92-year-old director of ‘Palatak’, ‘Sansar Simante’, ‘Ganadebata’, ‘Phuleswari’, ‘Dadar Kirti’ and ‘Sriman Prithwiraj’ was shifted to the CCU of SSKM on Monday.

A hospital spokesperson told TOI that he was admitted in the nephrology department with issues of chest infection, kidney and heart ailments. “His condition improved and he was shifted to a general bed. But on Monday night, his condition deteriorated and he was shifted back to CCU. An eight-member board has been formed for his treatment.”

Unconfirmed reports claimed that the director had taken ill after going to check out the location for his next film. Director Kamaleshwar Mukherjee had paid him a visit on Saturday. “I had gone to meet him at the hospital. It seems like a case of chronic renal failure,” said Mukherjee, who is also a medical practitioner.
