KOLKATA: A day after four members of a family were found dead in an apartment in Manicktala, post mortem reports confirmed that two children and their mother were killed after being hit by a blunt weapon.

On Monday evening police recovered bodies of all four family members from the locked flat at BRS quarters on Bagmari Road of Kakurgachhi in east Kolkata. Two children and wife were found dead on the floor of the room with bleeding injuries and the father was found hanging.
After speaking to the neighbours, investigators have reasons to believe that Prabin used to suspect his wife of having an extra-marital affair, which soured the relation between the couple.
Locals said Prabin was suffering from mental illness and was hospitalized for nearly a month. During this time, Prabin lost his job and his wife started working at four houses. Locals hinted that one of her employer had arranged the admission of Prabin at the mental hospital. This sparked a tension between the couple.
Even after returning from the hospital the tension remained which caused regular trouble in their home, which even depressed their children. Pravat Dalui, one of the
friends of Prasanta, said, " I met him on Friday. Both of us are members of east Kolkata football club, a soccer coaching center. In past couple of months he was not regular in the club and I asked him to go to the club. He was looking depressed and did not join me," said Pravat.
The post mortem report hinted that Prabin possibly killed his family on Sunday afternoon. "Food was found in the stomach of Prasanta and his mother. The other two had empty stomach," said Damayanti Sen, joint commissioner (crime).
Police suspect the family probably cancelled their trip to Digha following an altercation and confined themselves inside the room. Prabin perhaps turned violent from depression and before others could realize, he hit his children and wife with the shovel. The initial autopsy findings, however, ruled out any drugging of the murdered three. "No drug or poison was found in their stomach," said an officer.
