KOLKATA: The magic and mysticism of Sufi music mesmerized the audience as artistes from all over the world performed during Ruhaniyat at a city club on Saturday evening. This was the second time the all-India Sufi and Mystic music festival was held in the city. Floated by Banyan Tree Events director Mahesh Babu eight years ago, Ruhaniyat has evolved into one of the most prestigious and biggest festivals for connoisseurs across the country. What makes Ruhaniyat a sought-after event is the fact that now, more than ever before, the wisdom of the Sufi saints and Mystics is a reminder of the human capacity to offer love and solace.
The highlights of this year's event were Sufi masters Latif Bolat from Turkey and Mohamed Farghaly from Egypt. While the former presented Bektashi Sufiana songs, the latter presented Arabic Sufi songs. The festival also featured Sufi Kalam and Mystic songs by Sawan Khan, Akhe Khan and Sali Mohmad Khan, Jagar by Rakesh Bhatt and group and Sufi Qawali by Shameem Nayeem Ajmeri and his troupe.
