KOLKATA: Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay on Friday asked the president of West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE), Gautam Pal, not to “step into the shoes” of his predecessor, Manik Bhattacharya.

The Calcutta High Court had summoned Pal after petitioner Hossain Mandal and a few others drew the court’s attention to the delay in issuing certificates to successful candidates of primary TET 2014.

When Pal sought more time from the court to issue the certificates, Justice Gangopadhyay observed, “You can spend crores of rupees to engage lawyers at the Supreme Court, and you have problems spending a meagre amount to issue certificates. Issue the certificates at the earliest.” “Don’t step into the shoes left behind by Manik Bhattacharya,” the judge told Pal. Bhattacharya is now in custody in connection with the school recruitment case.
