KOLKATA: Fire fighters need to equip themselves with the latest techniques of combating a major outbreak, state fire services minister Pratim Chatterjee said on Friday.
Chatterjee was speaking at the inauguration of a six-month certificate course in advanced fire fighting, the first of its kind in eastern India. “This course is open to science graduates who have to sit for an admission test.
There will be two batches of 30 students who will exposed to the latest developments in fire fighting the world over,� informed Chatterjee.
The best students of this course will be absorbed in the private sector, as fire safety officers, he assured. “We have already approached several corporate bodies to provide employment to the students after they complete this course,� claimed director general fire services Vijay Kumar.
The state government has already introduced vocational courses in 86 disciplines in the last two years, to equip young people for emerging disciplines, informed state technical education minister Mohammad Salim.
