Kolkata: The CBI on Friday arrested Trinamool activist Chandan Mandal in Bagda of North 24 Parganas in connection with the illegal school recruitment case, after questioning him at its Nizam Palace office.
Former joint director (east) and ex-minister Upen Biswas had earlier made an indirect reference to ‘Bagda-r Ranjan’ (Mandal) taking money from candidates for jobs in primary schools.
Apart from Mandal, the central investigating agency took in custody five more persons — Subrata Samanta Roy, Koushik Ghosh, Sahid Imam, Sheikh Ali Imam and Abdul Khalek.
According to CBI, the six arrested were involved in the illegal recruitment to Group D, Group C and assistant teacher posts for Class IX-X and XI-XII in state-run schools.
“It was alleged that the accused were part of the network of money collection from various candidates and facilitating employment to undeserving and unlisted candidates in various schools across West Bengal,” a CBI release stated.
