Following the questioning of Arun (65) and Ajit (55) Saha, the two sons of

Nani Bala Saha

of Simhat, police learned that she had died on January 16, 2016. But the brothers had suppressed the news of her death from relatives and neighbours.

Recently, local

Rupak Adhikary

had visited the Saha house for land valuation. He had to carry out the measurement and check documents. But the two brothers did not allow him to enter the house. This raised his suspicion which he shared with local youths. On Sunday, they forced their way in and discovered the gruesome truth. Arun told police that they had put off the cremation after her death as they were incapacitated then by ill health.

"It was winter when mother died and our legs were swollen. So we thought we would take her for cremation a few days later. But by then, maggots had set in. So we decided to just leave it there," he told cops.
