KOLKATA: A 38-year-old man hacked his parents to death, dumped the bodies in a room overnight and was planning to bury them in the garden of their home in Thakurpukur but was found out and handed over to police on Tuesday morning.

He was unemployed.
On Tuesday morning, Subrata Sarkar, cousin who is also Sobhan’s neighbour, arrived at his home. “Subrata used to park his auto at Sobhan’s home,” said an investigator. The investigator added that Subrata spotted the door locked from the outside and asked Sobhan about his parents. Sobhan apparently said that his parents had gone to Jalpaiguri to visit a relative. What caught Subrata’s attention was bloodstains and hair on the staircase. He also spotted two men digging a pit in the garden.
Like other neighbours, Subrata was also aware that Sobhan had a strained relationship with his parents. Suspecting something amiss, he called up Sobhan’s sister.
Confronted by his sister, Sobhan confessed that around 9.30pm on Monday, while his mother was performing puja, he attacked her with a knife, killing her on the spot. He then dragged her downtairs and also killed his father, who was watching TV. He then tied the bodies, wiped the bloodstains and had dinner.
Early on Tuesday, he hired two labourers to dig a hole in the garden. To neighbours, he said he was building a water tank. “He has been charged with murder ,” said Pallav Kanti Ghosh, the joint CP (crime). “During interrogation , he never showed remorse. He said he used to hate his parents as they misbehaved with him. He also claimed that he could not marry his girlfriend because of his father’s opposition ,” Ghosh said.
Sobhan’s sister claimed he had a mental ailment for which he had undergone treatment. The cops said his behaviour suggested no such ailment. The nature of the crime suggested a cold-blooded killer, they added.
