Smooth income tax return filing in Kolkata on last day

KOLKATA: Kolkata witnessed a brisk activity in front of income tax (IT) offices and offices of the leading practioners on Saturday, the last date of filing IT returns after extension.

However, IT practitioners said that the situation on August 5 was much better as compared to July 31, the original last date of filing IT returns. There are 30.36 lakh assesses in Kolkata.

Till July 31, 30.23 lakh returns were filed out of which there were returns of previous years as well. Arvind agarwal, a leading tax expert and a CA said that there was not much problem in the system from morning on Saturday. Partha Roy, owner of a jewellery shop, said that he could file his return today which he could not on July 31.
