I am trying to find out the magic in him that kept everyone glued to the stories, across generations," said Sagnik Chatterjee, director of the documentary film.
There is no central character or a narrator around whom the entire film will revolve. Chatterjee will have readers sharing their experience of reading Feluda in the 90-minute long story. "Feluda has been translated in around half a dozen languages and what attracted me is the appeal he has even among non-Bengali speaking population," he said.
"There has always been a fan following for Satyajit Ray's movies. May be, people got hooked on to Feluda in connection with Ray," he added. Pradosh Mitter's popularity across cultures has prompted Sagnik to do the documentary in English.
A film on Feluda, a curious reader of Sherlock Holmes, will definitely catch references to Holmes or Poirot. Unlike another iconic detective Byomkesh Bakshi, Feluda was not aimed at matured readers. "Surprisingly, he was equally popular among the adults," Chatterjee commented.
But there was another facet to Feluda. His villains will also find a prominence in the film. Be it Mandar Bose or Banabihari Baidya, none of his villains can be ignored as they have their own identity.
