Junior doctors said that the two statues — one in doctor’s uniform and another in a saree — were placed at the centre of the ‘Droho Gallery’.

“They were fine even on Saturday night when we had left. On Sunday morning, we found one of the statues lying on the ground and its face was smashed. We don’t know how it happened, whether it was as an accident or someone had vandalised it,” said one of the doctors at MCH.

No police complaint was lodged. On Sunday evening both the statues were removed, said sources.

On Saturday, the junior doctors of Medical College Hospital Kolkata had created a gallery of dissent for their protest.
Another doctor from the same medical college said, “We couldn't protect Abhaya. This society couldn’t protect her. Now we couldn’t even protect her statue. We are very upset. Efforts are being made to examine the CCTV footage.”
