Shah tries to assuage deletion fear in Gorkhas
Kolkata/Sukna/Salboni/Kulti: In an attempt to assuage fear of the Gorkha community amid SIR and merely two days before Darjeeling goes to polls, Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said BJP will add all deleted names to voter list if it comes to office in Bengal. As many as 40,000 Gorkha names have been deleted from voter rolls in SIR. Shah also promised a "solution" to the long-standing Gorkhaland issue within six months if BJP assumed office in Bengal.Speaking at Sukna, Shah said: "Immediately after assuming office, BJP will start finding out solutions to the Gorkha issues. Within six months of forming govt, we will reach a solution that will bring a smile to the face of every Gorkha.""Darjeeling has been voting for BJP. But the party was not getting so much support from the rest of Bengal. This time, the entire state is prepared to dislodge Didi," he said, alleging that successive govts —from Congress and Left Front to Trinamool — had exploited the Hills. At West Midnapore's Salboni, Shah said BJP would complete works of the stalled Jindal steel project if it formed govt. Land for the proposed plant was acquired during the tenure of former CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, but the project faltered amid security and raw material issues. "Only Modiji can complete the project," Shah said."I know about the rampant illegal sand mining from the rivers at Salboni. That will totally stop after BJP forms govt. There will be industrial development without any syndicate raj," he added.Speaking in his third rally of the day in West Burdwan's Kulti, Shah said: "I warn Mamata Banerjee's goons that if they try to disturb the poll process, I will ensure they are hanged upside down."
