‘Sat clouds bolster Mon rain promise’

Kolkata: Dark clouds over Kolkata on Saturday evening and scattered showers in neighbouring districts bolstered the promise of thundershowers in south Bengal on Monday.
Despite the mercury dropping from 38.1° C on Friday to 37.4° C on Saturday, increased humidity left the city sweating. The Met has predicted a maximum temperature of 38° C on Sunday, before Monday rain cools it down. “By Sunday, more coastal districts are likely to get rain. Kolkata is likely to receive moderate rain on Monday that will continue on Tuesday but lose intensity on Wednesday,” said Regional Meteorological Centre scientist Sourish Bandyopadhyay. “We can expect widespread thundershowers with winds gusting at 40 kmph-50 kmph in S Bengal districts from Monday,” said RMC head Somenath Dutta.
A low pressure may develop in the southwest Bay of Bengal by Wednesday that may turn into a depression by Friday. Met said it was too early to predict but next week’s rain might intensify.
