After the CPM’s

state secretariat issued a statement to condemn Saayoni’s arrest, Congress leader Anand Sharma on Monday tweeted: “Condemning the arrest of Saayoni Ghosh and the police repression let loose on political opponents and Trinamool leaders in Tripura.

Abuse of power

and misuse of laws to silence opposition is unacceptable in democracy.”

Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said: “We welcome these statements. But, we would have been happier if they had taken the fight against the BJP to the streets, where it matters, and reached out to people. We (Trinamool) came to Tripura just three months ago and the BJP is rattled.”
