Rose Valley case: CBI calls Kol ex-top cop
Kolkata: Former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar was on Thursday sent a notice to appear before CBI in connection with the Rose Valley Ponzi case. Kumar, who has sought time from the CBI, needs a separate permission from the court to appear in connection to any probe other than the Saradha case.
Kumar, who had earlier moved Calcutta High court, was granted an extension of his protection from arrest and coercive action by the court. Kumar’s counsel Milon Mukherjee had alleged that CBI was indulging in a pick-and-choose game by sending notices to him in the case out of a total of 121 officers of the Special Investigation Team that probed the Saradha Ponzi scam. Earlier, the court had asked Kumar to deposit his passport with the CBI and cooperate with the agency.
Present at the court of Justice Madhumita Mitra, Mukherjee said that CBI has sent a notice to him to appear before the agency in connection to the Rose Valley probe. “How have they linked him to the Rose Valley scam is not known. But he needs the court’s permission to appear before the CBI in connection to cases other than the Saradha,” he said.
