RG Kar MBBS student found hanging in hospital quarters, cops suspect depression

KOLKATA: A 20-year-old second-year MBBS student from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found hanging in her room at the Kamarhati ESI Hospital quarters, where her mother works as a doctor. Her father, a senior official at a nationalised bank, is posted in Mumbai.


According to cops, the body of the victim, Ivy Prasad, who was alone in her room, was found hanging from the ceiling on Friday night. "Despite repeated calls, there was no response from her. Eventually, her mother broke open the door and found her hanging. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead," a senior police officer of the Barrackpore Commissionerate said. No suicide note was found.

Police registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. The Kamarhati police sent the body for post-mortem at College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital. RG Kar officials said Prasad was usually quiet. Cops suspect that she might have been suffering from depression.
