KOLKATA: A grade IV contractual staffer at RG Kar Hospital was arrested by the Tala Police based on a complaint by the hospital administration alleging that he was trying to dupe a health department official and "sell" reserved

trustee

seats of the college for the MBBS course against Rs 25 lakh.

The original complaint was lodged with the hospital authorities by the health official who carried out a sting operation in this regard as soon as he felt he was being cheated. Cops said others are involved in this gang and that at least two Tripura MBBS aspirants were also duped.

According to police, the official's daughter cleared the NEET but did not secure a rank that could guarantee her a seat at a government medical college here. One of the accused reportedly contacted him and offered one of the four vacant Trustee seats for his daughter.

Accordingly, the official was asked to come to

RG Kar

on April 18. He was taken to a vacant doctors' consultation room in the trauma care building where e was asked to fill up a form and then shown some documents. However, the accused refused to hand over any document to him without receiving money. This led the official to carry out the sting operation and report the matter to the authorities.

The internal probe team studied

CCTV

footage and took help of their security staffers to zero in on the accused and then report the matter to the police. The cops said the accused has been questioned and has so far named two others involved in the gang. Their questioning is likely soon, said police sources.
