Red tape bars parents from meeting arrested teen girl

KOLKATA: The parents of the Class-XII girl arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of her former boyfriend in

Habra

have been running from pillar to post for four days to meet their daughter, only to return empty-handed.

On Monday, after they couldn't meet her at Dum Dum jail, the couple rushed to

Liluah Home

in Howrah where she was reportedly shifted. “We visited the Liluah Home, but in vain. The home officials didn't let us meet our daughter without court permission. But we are still in the dark about the legal process and how to get the court permission. We don't know how she is or when we can meet her,“ the girl's moth er told TOI.

The girl's father said he managed to know from Habra police station that his daughter was lodged in Dum Dum jail. “But we didn't know she was sent to Liluah. When we went there, they didn't allow us to see her. We are seeking help from the civic chairman to get her released. But we are yet to get any help,“ he said.

The girl's lawyer, Abhijit Chakraborty, said a refusal to a relationship didn't mean instigating someone to commit suicide. “Cops to commit suicide. “Cops shouldn't have arrested her on the basis of the complaint in which several inconsistencies were found. There is no evi dence of direct provocation by the girl, because of which she shouldn't have been booked under 306IPC. We will move a bail petition in an upper court,“ the lawyer said, adding that the judge of the Barasat CJM court has called for a case diary by September 16.
