KOLKATA: Anil Verma, who was recalled from his deputation in London for allegedly battering his wife last month, has been appointed by the state government as administrator of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council on Thursday. Verma, an IAS officer of 1989 batch, belongs to Bengal cadre.
The bureaucratic reshuffle has been effected about a fortnight before the Election Commission is expected to announce the assembly election schedule.
Normally, officers against whom an investigation is pending, are kept on compulsory waiting. Officers, however, could not say if any probe was on against Verma. He had earlier served as DM of Darjeeling and DGHC secretary.
Rajesh Sinha has been posted as commissioner of MGNREGA. Excise commissioner D K Chakraborty has been given additional charge of district electoral officer of Kolkata North.
