KOLKATA: A senior official of a Mumbai-based real estate company was nabbed on Thursday for allegedly duping Kolkata Municipal Corporation and his own company.
Ashok Bhattacharya, the AGM of M/S Unity Reality and Developer Ltd had allegedly embezzled Rs 2.02 crore from his company.
Bhattacharya's Mumbai office had paid him the amount for mutation of two plots at Alipore.
Probe revealed that Bhattacharya arranged three fake mutation certificates of Rs 65 lakh, Rs 67 lakh and Rs 50 lakh and submitted these to his Mumbai head office. The forgery was noticed when his Mumbai office produced all three mutation certificates to KMC. Deputy Assessor and Collector (south) Shantanu Samanta lodged a police complaint. During probe, Bhattacharya's involvement was revealed and he was rounded up on Thursday.
In another incident, Arup Das, a former employee of a diagnostic centre was arrested by Salt Lake (North) police on Friday for embezzling Rs 25 lakh. He will be produced in court on Saturday.
