Ramesh Gandhi key player in Saradha plot: CBI

KOLKATA: City business Ramesh Gandhi who was arrested by CBI on Monday evening in connection with Saradha scam was produced before a city court on Tuesday. CBI alleged that Gandhi was one of the main conspirator in the Saradha Ponzi scam and he facilitated the growth of business in outer states. Acting Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sumona Ghorai sent him to police custody for three days.
Praying for a seven days police custody, CBI lawyer Partha Sarathi Dutta said, “Ramesh Gandhi had an active participation in the money market and he assisted Sudipta Sen in siphoning of funds for personal benefits. He was involved in fraudulent consultancy and raised money through false invoices”. “He is a very influential man and used his connection to help the business grow in outer states like Assam and Tripura,” Dutta added.
Contesting CBI’s claim, Gandhi’s lawyer Sanjoy Dasgupta said, “The CBI in their remand has shown that Gandhi has taken 75 lakh from Sudipta Sen for creative consultancy and another one lakh for providing logistic support to the directors. If this is a crime then everybody in the media is a criminal because they run advertisements”.
Dasgupta also alleged that CBI has flouted all laws and has arrested Gandhi from infront of his office at Prince Anwar Shah Road when the arrest is shown at CBI office. Dasgupta pleading for a bail said, “My client is diabetic and is suffering from brain hemorrhage. He needs medical attention for which bail is needed”. Gandhi also said that he has neuro problem and cannot stand properly because his left side is not working properly. Contesting Dadgupta CBI lawyer said that Gandhi has gone through medical checkup and the doctors have told that he is medically.
Meanwhile Bidhannagar police and Jharkhand police jointly arrested one Pratap Biswas from CB block Salt Lake allegedly for collecting 15 crore from the market through his company ‘Mass Infra Realty Private Limited’. Biswas was arrested on the basis of an order issued by a Jharkhand court Biswas acting as MD of the company has accumulated huge money from the market through this chit fund. He has been taken to Jharkhand on transit remand.
