Rajya Sabha: Kharge demands Shamik Bhattacharya's expulsion

KOLKATA: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday demanded expulsion of BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Shamik Bhattacharya. Bhattacharya on Thursday objected multiple times when Trinamool lawmakers were speaking in the house.

Bringing the issue to the notice of deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh, Kharge said, “everyone should speak in the house according to the rules. Whenever anyone tries to put forward his statement, someone rises and interrupts him. You expel him.”

Bhattacharya said that debating a point is a common practice in the Parliament. “I have followed what is a common practice in the house. I have objected to misinformation being passed by the Trinamool MPs. However, I was surprised that Kharge ji objected to that while Trinamool legislators were silent in the house,” he said.
