Rain, road work bring morning traffic to crawl
"I noticed a lack of police presence in the area, even though it's an educational hub. Motorists were not even directed to alternate routes," remarked Arnab Saha, who was en route to Wellington from Patuli. While the police acknowledged unexpected delays, they rejected claims of insufficient deployment. "The road space was reduced, but the number of vehicles using this route increased because of the exams," one officer explained.
Later in the day, two consecutive vehicle breakdowns on AJC Bose Flyover — one near Exide and the other by Beckbagan — exacerbated the traffic congestion in that vicinity. “Even when we suggested motorists take the Park Circus connector and then proceed to Park Street, many were reluctant. Similarly, few opted for the Canal road from Beliaghata as an alternative,” an officer shared.
The issues arising from the 30-minute Metro disruption were addressed by deploying extra officers along J L Nehru Road and C R Avenue.
Traffic authorities were compelled to adjust the automated signaling system on primary roads like DH Road and EM Bypass. This change came after damaged roads caused vehicles to decelerate between two major intersections. Consequently, the planning department of the traffic police headquarters is considering altering the signal timings by 5-10 seconds to accommodate these road conditions.
Police to seize vehicles parked on roads for 10 days in a row
The police in Coimbatore have seized a car that was parked on Vincent Road for over a week and have warned the public against leaving their vehicles unattended on the roads for more than 10 days. The police claim that such vehicles not only cause traffic disruption but also pose a security threat. The seized vehicles will be returned to their owners once they provide an explanation for leaving them on the roadside. The police have been seizing vehicles parked for more than 10 days since a car bomb explosion last year.
Flooded roads halt traffic, commuters hit
Several key areas in Lucknow experienced heavy waterlogging, causing inconvenience to people. Hospitals were inaccessible, causing delays in treatment. Office-goers also faced problems and had to take alternative routes due to the waterlogged roads. Traffic jams were reported in Hazratganj, Gomtinagar, Kaiserbagh, Charbagh, and other parts of the city. This resulted in people arriving late for work or appointments, affecting their daily routines.
62 roads still closed in HP, one-way stretch slows traffic near Pandoh
Over 62 roads remain blocked in Himachal Pradesh, causing traffic jams on the Chandigarh-Manali highway. The highway is still one-way due to the risk of landslides. In Mandi district, 27 roads are yet to be reopened, while 19 are blocked in Kullu and 11 in Shimla. The Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation has conducted a successful trial run of its Volvo bus on this route.
