Pursuing excellence, rewarding talent at students’ award ceremony
Kolkata: After a hiatus of nine years, Times NIE in association with National High School under the NR Iyer Memorial Education Society awarded 200-odd students at the Kala Mandir auditorium recently. The prestigious Student of the Year award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievements and contributions of students in various fields such as academics, sports, arts, and community service. The bright sunny Friday morning on Nov 29 saw faces with chin held up high in pride and joy, being seated in the auditorium, along with their parents. Students whose accomplishments span academics, sports, conduct, leadership and service to their school and community were recognized at the glittering event. Schools had earlier sent in nominations based on academic excellence, attitude, personal conduct, leadership qualities, community service and achievement in sports.Dignitaries from the school included S Radhakrishnan, president, National High School, secretary R Jagganathan, treasurer R Nagarajan, former president Sampath Kumar and member of the governing body, Lakshmi Narayanan and other members of the school's managing committee along with principals and vice-principals of both the branches of National High School. The dignitaries from the school harped that they were there to give education a boost. Treasurer R Nagarajan, who had lost a leg, was constant source of inspiration for all present there with his ever-smiling demeanor.Radhakrishnan, on behalf of the school, said, "National High School is here to recognize young talents and see to the overall development of young minds and celebrate excellence."The luminaries for the day were Debiprasad Duari, former director, research and academics, M P Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, M P Birla Planetarium, Anirban Mukherjee, principal, RCCIIT, Sourav Saha, dean (academics) & director data science, Praxis Business School, Kolkata & Bengaluru."Pursue your hearts because it is then only you will excel," urged Duari. He egged on the parents how they should be an active partner along with the school in nurturing the child.Mukherjee took the clarion call that teachers should first educate themselves, quip themselves before they can impart education and also harped on the importance of AI in today's worldSourav Saha explained how success in today's competitive world is no longer about individual accomplishments is, but about creating a brighter, more compassionate future. He encouraged the students to embrace continuous learning, cultivate intellectual curiosity, and push the boundaries of possibility and equip themselves enough to make their visions a reality.Prizes were given away by all the dignitaries present on the occasion. The emcee for the day was RJ Vineet who kept the audience entertained and took the programme forward smoothly.
